Sheriff's Report
      The following reports were made to the Trinity County Sheriff's Department from Aug. 4 to 10: Aug. 4 - Vandalism to a vehicle window in Hayfork is reported. A Hayfork man says he was walking down the road when a suspect yelled at him, causing him to yell back; he says the suspect picked up a rock and he picked up a board as they both yelled at one another.

County switches to Umpqua for short-term loan needs
      Trinity County has secured a $3 million short-term loan from Umpqua Bank to provide operating funds and meet cash flow needs that arise at the end of each year as the county waits for tax revenues to roll in. The loan is called a tax revenue anticipation note (TRAN) and will be used to cover short-term cash flow needs for this fiscal year only.

      The Buckhorn Fire, burning partly in the Trinity Alps Wilderness, was the scene of a fatal helicopter crash last week.

Tributes scheduled
      For those who died while working on the Iron Complex fire, there will be tributes to the men in Redding and in Oregon. In Redding, a celebration honoring James (Jim) N. Ramage, a U.S. Forest Service helicopter pilot who died in the Buckhorn Fire helicopter accident, has been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Redding Convention Center.

Benefit for injured couple
      A benefit dinner for Steve and Corina Amore will be held this Saturday, Aug. 16, in Critser Hall — the gym — at Hayfork Elementary School. The Amores were injured in an accident. The event will start at 5 p.m. with music by The Mostly Stringband and a family style Mexican dinner.
