In response to the letters in Feedback submitted by Mr. Fattig on July 9 and Mr. Rapf on July 16, there is no one person or group to be blamed for the large-scale fires experienced in the Western states in recent years. The policies and changes in the agencies that manage the public lands have lent to less aggressiveness in the suppression of these fires. More ... I wanted to write a little bit about the U.S. Forest Service getting its act together. Is he also responsible for the slow reaction to the earthquakes, floods, tornados, lightning strikes, bovine tuberculosis, mad cow disease, salmonella in tomatoes, gas prices, More ... Nearly a million acres have burned since lightning started over 800 fires in Northern California. There are around 25,000 firefighters battling these blazes. The smoke must be getting to John Rapf. His latest letter (Feedback, July 16) takes environmental extremism to a new low. His logic is as nonsensical as measuring the thickness of eggshells in total darkness. More ... |
