Fires show our resilience
I propose that our response to the fire emergency in Northern California is a good indicator of our resilience as individuals, as communities, as a state, and as a nation. We are getting a good measure of how well we are able to respond to unexpected shocks. The lightning storm that started the fires out here was a never-before-seen event.

About fighting fire with fire
As we enter another summer of smoke I am given cause to question the wisdom of the policies of forest management that believe that fighting fire with fire is the best course of action. I bought my property on the road to the Ironside lookout 10 years ago as it beautifully met the criteria for the happily-ever-after home I envisioned.

And as the fires burn ever closer, it is nice to be able to send your link to our far-flung children so they can keep track of our situation. Thanks for making this wonderful service available.

It's time to shrink government
Happy Independence Day to my brothers, sisters and fellow Americans! Today we celebrate the birth of our nation some 232 years ago. It is a good day to reacquaint ourselves with the founding documents, the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. If you have never read the Declaration of Independence or the U.S.
