      Ladies and gentlemen, please stop your engines. The Hayfork-N-You Motorcycle Rally which was to be held July 18, 19 and 20 at the Trinity County Fairgrounds has been canceled.

Donation in memory of Johnny Weil
      An estimated 500,000 children worldwide have been maimed by land mines. The LN-4 Prosthetic Hand enables those injured to be able to function with some sense of normalcy. Rotary and the Ellen Meadows Prosthetic Hand Foundation have joined to provide hands for those in need.

      Vacation Bible School is being held at the Seventhday Adventist Church on Reservoir Road. It started on the 7th and will continue until the 11th from 9 a.m. until noon. Ages 7-11 are welcome. Mary Elaine Mercill is the leader.

      COFFEE CREEK COMMUNITY CHURCH had its first Sunday school activity June 18 at the Redding Waterworks Park. Fifteen students and 10 adults attended. Planned future events are a boat outing on Saturday, July 19, gold panning and barbecue on Sunday, Aug. 10, and a family campfire barbecue on Sunday, Sept. 14.

As the River Flows
      Although we have had a couple of rare days when the smoke cleared from the valley and we all got to breathe, it continues to be smoky and humid. People are having a hard time getting things done, especially if those things require any significant energy output. It's nearly impossible to labor without risking serious health problems.

Supporters of Obama to meet
      Trinity County for Obama will hold its first meeting since the Illinois senator became the presumptive Democratic nominee for president of the United States. The meeting is Monday, July 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Weaverville at Mamma Llama Coffehouse and will cover the basics of the Obama campaign organization and offer training for the months ahead in Trinity County.

      The Weaverville Church of the Nazarene will host an Evening of Prayer on Sunday, July 13, at 6 p.m. The evening will include worship music with the church's worship band, guest speaker Jim Wilson from PrayNorthstate, and concerted prayer for Trinity County, the State of California and the nation. Everyone is invited.

      The Lewiston Lions Club will hold its breakfast/business meeting Thursday, July 10, at 7 a.m. at Mountain Valley Grill on Trinity Dam Boulevard. The agenda includes upcoming events such as the Relay for Life in September, the Flea Market and Pancake Breakfast also in September, and new ideas for fund-raisers. Guests are welcome.

      The Rotary Club of Hayfork is issuing a challenge to all Trinity County clubs and organizations to sponsor one young lady in the Miss Trinity County contest to be held at the county fair this year. Entrants must be single, have lived in the county for the last year, and be between the ages of 16 and 24.

The past week has been another one of concern for many senior citizens of Trinity County with the smoke still in the air from all the fires caused by the extremely bad thunder and lightning from the storms of Friday night and Saturday morning in June.

Junction City Monitor
      To say the least, the past few weeks have been an adventure. June 18, I headed off to the Napa Valley as my husband headed for Poulsbo, Wash., to join our son Kent for a fishing trip at Nehia Bay, Wash. My first surprise came on June 20 when my daughters-in-law, Annette and Carolyn, gave me a 70th surprise birthday party at the home of Carolyn and our son Kyle.

      FOOD KITCHEN: Carol Arthur, the main coordinator of our Soup Kitchen, brought many bags of commodities to a list of people who qualify. This is a oncea month provision besides the regular Tuesday midday meals. The July 8 lunch was a delicious looking taco salad which was generous in meat and fresh toppings.

      The Friends of the Hayfork Library will present the fourth summer Storytime program at the Hayfork Library on Monday, July 14, from 3 to 4 p.m. Becky Stetson, who retired after 34 years as a teacher at Hayfork Elementary School, will read "Scarecrow" by Cynthia Rylant. Advance signups are encouraged but not necessary.

      All Trinity County students ages 16 to 18 are invited to attend a Natural Resource Careers Summer Camp being coordinated by The Watershed Center and Shasta College's Forestry/Natural Resource Department.
