Trinity Links Disc Golf Club and the Lewiston Fresh Start Food Pantry announce the 8th Annual Ice Bowl Disc Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Deer Meadow Disc Golf Course in Lewiston.
All proceeds support the Lewiston Fresh Start Food Bank, which will provide hot coffee and doughnuts during signup and a delicious lunch between rounds.
Sign up is at 9 a.m., tee-off at 10 a.m. Course is in the field behind the Post Office, with parking at St. Gilbert Catholic Church. Rain, snow or shine, “No Wimps, No Whiners” is the official Ice Bowl slogan.
There is a $25 buy in, or $20 with a non-perishable food donation (three cans or more, prize for the most food). Players package includes a disc, a mini, and lunch! Four divisions, with two rounds of nine holes. Plus, closest to pin contest, putting contest, raffle and more.
Local businesses are encouraged to participate by donating items for the winner’s prize packages and raffle prizes (all tax-deductible of course). Organizers have been making the rounds, but if they haven’t gotten to you and you would like to help sponsor the event, they will be sure to give you a big shout out at the event, online, and in post-event publicity.
Official Ice Bowls are played at courses all over the United States and Canada, as well as Europe in a corridor that reflects astronomical winter (Dec. 21-March 22). Each event finds a local charity to support, ideally to fight hunger. Since 1996, disc golfers at nearly 5,000 Ice Bowls have raised more than $4.55 million for local charities, including $331,000 in 2019. Ice Bowl’s overall charitable goal for 2020 is $375K.
