North Fork Grange Harvest Festival

Competition is hot at the Chili Cookoff.

The North Fork Grange will host the 15th annual Trinity County Harvest Festival Oct. 6 at the Highland Art Center meadow on Main Street in downtown Weaverville. This event is set 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors will provide artwork, crafts, specialty food products and other merchandise.

The Grange’s 15th annual Chili Cook-off signups are by 9 a.m. at the event or contact Ginger Shaw at 739-3445. Cook teams please make contact by phone to confirm your participation. The judge’s briefing to contestants will be at 9 a.m. with cooking thereafter until noon. Taster’s choice will start at noon. Everyone gets a taste of each contestant’s chili and then votes for their favorite. Each vote cast is important for the winner with awards in addition to cash for judged and “People’s Choice.” The winner gets bragging rights for one year and a place on Trinity County’s Chili Champion’s plaque “Wall of Flame” displayed at the N.F. Grange Hall in Junction City. Judging will be completed by 3 p.m. with the results to be announced. The more chili sold the higher the winning prize money. The yearly raffle results will be announced by the end of the event. This year’s raffle has the best room for a night at the Weaverville Hotel with gift certificates for two, one night’s stay and dinner for two at Indian Creek Lodge and Café, dinner for two and golf for two at Trinity Alps Golf and Restaurant, guided fishing trips with Steve’s Trinity Guide Service one seat for a full day and Sweet Trinity Guide Service one seat full day, half-day of rafting with Trinity River Rafting, full day raft for six from Old Bridge Rafting, one-day fishing boat rental at Trinity Lake Resort & Marina, Win River Resort one night stay and certificate for River Retreat Spa and more.

This year’s festival will feature exhibits, local fire departments, chili cook-off, raffle, food and music throughout the day beginning with the Weaverville Community Band.

Vendor space is only $35 but limited. Apply with Will at 623-0302 for spaces. Chili cook-off 739-3445. Vendor applications are available on the North Fork Grange event bulletin board or through the Trinity County Chamber of Commerce.
