The Willow Creek Fire Safe Council is participating in National Fire Prevention Month by holding its 17th annual Firewise Community Fair and 11th Youth Ecology Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Veteran Park in Willow Creek.
The council hopes to educate the public on fire prevention, defensible space and fuel reduction in and around the homes and property. During this event Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog will be attending, along with U.S. Forest Service and Cal Fire displays, emergency response displays, law enforcement displays, fish painting plus other crafts, youth bike safety program (free helmets while they last and drawing for three bikes, must participate in bike safety program to be eligible to receive a helmet or enter drawing), youth baseball tournament, youth art contest display, other fire safety educational booth, health safety booths, and other vendor booths (spaces are free but must pre-registered before 8 a.m., day of event).
Special this year will be music by Pure Mongrel at 11 a.m. and Don, the Singing Cowboy at 1 p.m. Also Dream Quest and Compass Rose Academy will have a special Youth Pirate/Historical Fencing Tournament starting a 10 a.m. and a Treasure Hunt starting a 4 p.m. after the Firewise event ends.
