Mark your calendar to be at the Trinity Alps Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 22, the Weaverville Lions Club is organizing another Rib Cook-off along with a Chili Cook-off and Golf Tournament. Last year, even though the event had rain, the event still was held and this year, the Lions realize there will probably be a little extra smoke in the air while the barbecuing is happening. All the proceeds from this fun day will benefit Teen Challenge and The Trinity Trail Alliance.

Last year, Roger Adrian won the Rib Cook-off; 2R’s BBQ (Roger Yarnell) won the Chili Cook-off, and the People’s Choice winner was also 2R’s BBQ (Roger Yarnell). Like last year, there will be cash prizes so if you like to barbecue, be sure to enter. For information on the Rib and Chili Cook-offs, contact John Gilbertson at 916-952-4247.

To give the public more fun and involvement, the Lions will also host a four-person scramble Golf Tournament. There will be prizes for first- and second-place teams and worst team, along with best drive and closest to the pin. For information on the Golf Tournament, contact Dave Hill at 714-356-7543. Hole sponsorships are available also.

Food tasting packets will be sold for the ribs and/or chili. There will be music during the day. Lots of prizes are being collected for the large prize drawing. These tickets will be pre-sold and you do not need to be present to win. Some of the prizes already collected are: 9mm pistol, 3 days/2 nights at the Silver Legacy, $100 Gift Certificate and more.  The tickets are $1 each; six for $5. Drawing tickets can be purchased from any Lions Club member or from The Trinity Trail Alliance members.

Come and enjoy the competition, the ribs, chili, beer and the fellowship. The rules for both Cook-offs and Golf Tournament will soon be available on the Lions Club Facebook page. There will be RV and camper parking available.

The Weaverville Lions Club is a nonprofit organization and all money made at this fundraiser will go back into this community, this time to Teen Challenge and The Trinity Trail Alliance. For more information contact Chairman John Gilbertson at 916-952-4247.
