The Highland Art Center has begun accepting artwork for the 36th annual Juried Art Show. The period for submitting artwork ends at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13. Stop by the Highland at 691 Main St., Weaverville, to pick up show guidelines or call 623-5111 for particulars.

This year’s judge is Andrew Walker Patterson, an accomplished painter and a professor of visual art at Shasta College in Redding. He requested that instead of a stipend for himself a special award be made in memory of William “Bill” Marlow whom he met at his last visit to the Highland as a judge. So, this year and perhaps in perpetuity the $200 William Marlow Memorial Prize for Painting will be added to the available cash award roster.

Judging will take place on Oct. 16 and the exhibit will open Oct. 21 and run through November. Unlike previous years there will not be a critique of accepted and awarded artworks. The reception for acknowledging show participants and award-winning entries will take place during the November Art Cruise on Saturday, Nov. 7.
