Each fall for the past several years, a group of dog lovers in Hayfork has put on a day of fun and games for dogs and their owners at what is called “BarktoberFest.”
This year the event is being held from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Trinity County Fairgrounds in Hayfork. Admission and all activities are free.
The event is put on by the Dogaholics Anonymutts, a Dog Scout Troop (yes, the dogs are the scouts and they do earn badges) that meets once a month throughout the year in Hayfork to promote the improvement of the lives of dogs, their owners, and society through humane education, positive training and community involvement.
The BarktoberFest is the group’s effort to do just that. The day is filled with fun and games to be played with your dog. Some of the activities include Diving for Donuts, Jumpiest Dog, Musical Mats, Red Light/Green Light, Obstacle Course, Hayfork Bank Relay, Fastest Frisbee Catcher and more.
There will be a scariest costume contest where you and your dog dress in a coordinated scary costume and a baked goods auction as a fundraiser for Hayfork’s Spay and Neuter Program.
The Hayfork Timberjacks 4-H club will be selling lunch, snacks and drinks.
