The Human Response Network is sponsoring a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program for the 2020 tax season. We are seeking volunteers, willing to commit up to 16 hours per week, to provide tax preparation assistance for low-income families.
Thanks to the commitment of community volunteers, this will be the 16th tax season that HRN has been able to provide free tax assistance to the residents of Trinity County.
In the 2019 tax season, tax prep volunteers prepared 233 tax returns, which returned $369,490 in tax refund dollars to Trinity County residents.
Volunteers are provided office space in the Weaverville office, which includes all of the equipment and supplies necessary, and will be trained on how to prepare tax returns using TaxSlayer software. The training and tax preparation software is provided by the Internal Revenue Service.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, the VITA site will be a drop-off and pick-up site. HRN needs volunteers willing to prepare tax returns, and volunteers that are able to meet with clients for the drop-off and pick-up process.
A volunteer application and description of duties can be found at the HRN website, www.hrntrinity.org. For more information, contact Jeanetta Trounday at 623-2024 by 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14.
