Dave and Carol Covington

Lewiston is losing some great community supporters as Dave and Carol Covington pull up stakes and retire from running the Old Lewiston Bridge RV Resort on Rush Creek Road. Dave and Carol moved to Lewiston in 2002 from Hemet, Calif. Dave had spent 28 years in the grocery business and was looking for a change. He and Carol had been eyeballing various RV parks, looking for one that would meet their criteria as well as potential. They finally bought the Old Lewiston Bridge Park from Toma and Teresa Miranda in 2002.

Dave and Carol spent years cleaning up the park, re-organizing it and making it into a premier destination for RVers. They have had people returning to the park for years, going back as far as three generations of families coming to enjoy the park and what Lewiston has to offer.

Dave was also very involved in helping to support Lewiston. He served as a director on the board of the Lewiston Community Services District for over 15 years. Most of that as vice president. He was active in the Lewiston Merchants Association and the Lewiston Community Association, helping to put on the annual Lewiston Peddlers’ Faire and Lewiston Bridge Lighting. His support will be missed.

After 21 years of running the park, they have decided to “retire” for a few months before seeing what their next adventure is. They have daughters in Riverside and Menefee, Calif., and will plan visits to them, see other friends, and travel a bit to see what appeals to them.

They say they will be back and forth for a while, as they still love this area. Carol and Dave both say they will mostly miss their local friends and the friends they have made of the guests who have camped there. Dave commented that he’ll not miss running the private water company that he services that runs the park. He is really looking forward to just a month of “doing nothing” once they move.

They have sold the park to Ryan and Holly Hayes from Redding, who will take over running the park this week. Trinity County welcomes the Hayes and wishes continued success for the Old Lewiston Bridge RV Park.
