Trinity County’s unemployment rate held steady at 4.6% in October, better than the 6.2% rate a year ago, according to preliminary data issued last week by the Employment Development Department Labor Market Information Division.

The national unemployment rate in October was 4.3%, down from 4.6% the month before and down from 6.6% in October 2020. California’s rate this October was 6.1%, down from 6.4% in September and down from 9.3% the year before.

Trinity County’s total labor force numbered 4,630 in October, down from 4,740 in September and up from 4,590 in October 2020.

Trinity County unemployment rate ranked 13th from the top in October among California’s 58 counties. Marin County ranked first with unemployment at 3.4% and at the bottom was Imperial County at 17.7%.

Trinity County mostly held steady over the past month in most categories. Trade, transportation and utilities; and local government posted gains. Farming; mining, logging and construction; and state government held steady. Manufacturing; education and health services and federal government employment saw dips.
