Trinity County’s unemployment rate dipped from 5.3% in August to 4.7% in September, also better than the 6.5% rate a year ago, according to preliminary data issued last week by the Employment Development Department Labor Market Information Division.

The national unemployment rate in September was 4.6%, down from 5.3% the month before and down from 7.7% in September 2020. California’s rate this September was 6.4%, down from 7.5% in August and down from 10.5% the year before.

Trinity County’s total labor force numbered 4,740 in September, down from 4,900 in August and up from 4,640 in September 2020.

Trinity County unemployment rate ranked 12th from the top in September among California’s 58 counties. Marin County ranked first with unemployment at 3.6% and at the bottom was Imperial County at 18.1%.

Trinity County held steady or saw losses over the past month in many categories. Farming; mining, logging and construction; education and health services; and state and local government held steady. Financial services; leisure and hospitality; federal government and service providing saw dips.
