Trinity County’s unemployment rate dipped from 5.6% in July to 5.3% in August, also better than the 6.9% rate a year ago, according to preliminary data issued last week by the Employment Development Department Labor Market Information Division.
The national unemployment rate in August was 5.3%, down from 5.7% the month before and down from 8.5% in August 2020. California’s rate this August was 7.5%, down from 7.9% in July and down from 12.3% the year before.
Trinity County’s total labor force numbered 4,920 in August, up from 4,790 in July and up from 4,710 in August 2020.
Trinity County unemployment rate ranked 7th from the top in July among California’s 58 counties. Marin County ranked first with unemployment at 4.4% and at the bottom was Imperial County at 19.4%.
Trinity County held steady or saw increases over the past month in many categories. Farming, leisure and hospitality, service providing, education and health services, and local government posted the largest gains. Federal government, and mining, logging and construction employment saw slight dips.
