Tap into imagination to manage Trinity’s future
In response to Ms. Bourque’s question a couple of weeks ago, I am not at all saddened by the taming of Buckhorn’s nasty curves. I like the work that’s been done so far, and I can’t wait for the rest of it to take place. I like the work that’s been done on the end of town, too, adding and improving sidewalks and curbs.

Time to return compassion
Every day across the North State life support personnel save lives. The men and women who pick us up when we’ve fallen work tirelessly doing their job. They often go unheralded. One such individual, along with her partner and husband Larry, is Serena Brown.

Camp, coaches real gems
A large number of the Etna Junior Varsity football team recently participated in a three-day camp hosted by Trinity High School. We would like to extend our appreciation to Coach Cunningham and the entire football program for making us feel so welcome and providing a fantastic opportunity. The camp was extremely beneficial to both players and coaches and a good time was had by all.

Don’t want feds around
I love Trinity County and chose to retire here more than seven years ago for the beauty, solitude, and ratio of land versus people.

Actions beat back gossip
Proud to have Ila as a neighbor and good friend. She is a very caring, generous and kind person. She has been a big donor in Trinity County. Her generosity has given the Douglas City community lots of great benefits.

Graffiti raises suspicions
BEN + STACY. Big block letters appeared in the bike lane about 60 feet from our front door early Wednesday morning, Aug. 25. We live in a senior mobile home park, across the street from senior and handicapped apartments, close to the senior center, so I assume some senile but still romantic old folks must be the culprits.

Pray for Peace Day Sept. 21
International Pray for Peace Day will be Tuesday, Sept. 21. People of all faiths are encouraged to pray in their own way for world peace. Here in Trinity County, the Bandstand will be a gathering place for people who will pray for peace. You are invited.

Relay for knife, burn and poison
As honorable and noble are the service and financial contributions of hundreds of our community members over the years, my hat is off to your sincerity and willing spirit in remembrance and benefit for your family, friends and neighbors.

Let the debates begin
Democratic congressional candidate Jim Reed recently challenged Congressman Wally Herger, R-CD2, to a series of three debates in the North State. The first two would have occurred in August, one in Yuba City, the other in Chico. The final debate in September would have taken place in Redding. Seems like a reasonable plan to me.

Shine on the political howls
Once there was a fella that decided to run for a public office. He knew that what he had to offer would benefit his town and surrounding community. When the campaign began, his opponent started right away to try to discredit him with huge ads in the local newspaper.

Private meeting, public ad
On or about the fifth of August, the Haney family received a threatening letter that rose to the level of multiple felonies. As a friend of Bruce Haney and campaign supporter, I was shown the letter. For Bruce it was too close and personal. A lesser man, when confronted with such a threat, may have folded his tent and quit the race, but not Bruce.

Glad Haney stays positive
As the campaigns restart this month after the too-short lull of the summer we would like to extend our best wishes to Bruce Haney and his family. He is an honorable man who is running an honorable campaign and we truly believe that he is absolutely the best man for the job of sheriff in our county.

Rally tireless minority
In response to Mr. Cole’s Aug. 11 letter in which he expressed glee that I only received 13 percent of the vote in my bid for sheriff I say this; 13 percent may sound small but I would like to add some historical perspective. America was born out of the War of Independence fought by only 3-5 percent of the population.

Recent letters right-on
Mr. R. Cole, although I didn’t vote for Mark. Potts, he’s right on with all his writings. The government now is not what it was intended to be and is out of control. I assure you many of us did not vote for President Obama and a lot of people that did are sorry they did, that’s a fact.

Tough times for public safety
California State Department of Corrections is poised to dump thousands of known felons into the streets of our cities and towns. That means many law breakers that our local law enforcement and court systems have sent to prison over the years may well soon be back among us.

Betrayed by government
Referencing a couple of mentions of marijuana in my neighborhood of Salt Flat, I’d like to add some comment. First I’d like to say that I feel betrayed by all levels of government in Trinity County. To be told a “collective” is not a business is a ridiculous use of semantics.

Damage done when lies spread
I’ve known Dave Cox for years and have great respect for him. He is by far the best candidate for sheriff of Trinity County because of his experience, intelligence, honesty and commitment to our county. He has been invested in Trinity County for years and plans to be here for many, many more. He will uphold the law and treat everyone and every situation fairly.

Three issues
Issue 1: The photo of the socalled garden in Trinity Pines on the cover of the Aug. 18 issue says it all! Whether the gardens are legal or not, the process to create them is becoming horrific and criminal on legal, moral and environmental grounds.
