     TRINITY JOURNAL STAFF A Yuba City man died Friday evening after his vehicle went off Highway 299 west of Lewiston Road, striking trees and rolling down an embankment, the California Highway Patrol said.

County seeks grant for general plan
      Still trying to figure out how to pay for a much-needed update of Trinity County’s general plan, the county Board of Supervisors has authorized a $1 million grant application under Proposition 84 — the Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2006.

3 candidates now in sheriff race
      Trinity County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark A. Potts and Deputy Marshal Bruce Haney have entered the race for sheriff. Potts filed his declaration of candidacy on Monday, and Haney has taken out papers and must file by March 17. They will run against DA Investigator Dave Cox, who filed earlier.

Six Rivers Forest releases OHV plan
      The final environmental impact statement for the motorized travel management plan on the Lower Trinity and Mad River ranger districts has been released for public review by the Six Rivers National Forest. Forest Supervisor Tyrone Kelley said he plans to issue a Record of Decision on the plan within 30 days of when it was published in the Federal Register on Feb. 19.
