Camp cook caps 50-year career
     It took years to convince Marlys Smith to work at the Camp Trinity on the Bar 171 Ranch in Hyampom. But finally she felt her children were old enough — and the owner was in a pinch with camp starting the next day and the baker was off sick. Plus, the price was right. Five hundred dollars for the summer. “That was good money,” Smith said.

      What a fantastic Trinity County Fair! My favorites were the quilt exhibition and the art exhibition. I am blown away by so much artistic talent in this small county, and a lot of it by our youths.

DOUGLAS CITY DIGGINS
      The Soup Kitchen fundraiser event in the firehouse parking lot had chairs facing the band with speakers carrying music to the happy crowd. A great turnout enjoyed the evening, including food and music in the fresh air. Colored lights coordinated with the sound adding to the enjoyment of the bands.

When women got the vote
      Aug. 26 was a special anniversary for women of the USA. On that date in 1920, the amendment to the U.S. Constitution giving women the right to vote was signed by the president. Two-thirds of the states had ratified this historic amendment to the Constitution in just over one year.

      I have “hay-burners” on which I enjoy riding the trails and spending time within the wilderness areas. At the recent Coffee Creek Volunteer Fire District Chili Feed and Auction, Joann and Harold Mathis purchased a pack trip to one of the lakes of their choice. They chose Little Boulder Lake, and wanted to be packed in for seven days, and packed out.
